Achara is elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum). The word achara is Igbo language and this one word means elephant grass, bamboo and sugar cane (also okpete in Igbo) but most popularly referred to as elephant grass.
It is used in many eastern soups from Ofe achara to Oha soup.
